BOBBEE BEE; STRAWBERRY SERMONS with Darryl Strawberry

STRAWBERRY SERMONS

by Eric D. Graham

On Oct.16, Duplin County native Marcus Jackson and his son had an opportunity to meet Major League Baseball legend Darryl Strawberry, who came to the Jacksonville Country Club (in North Carolina) to participate in the fall fundraising Banquet for the Coastal NC Fellowship for Christian Athletes, where he was the guest speaker....

FCA is the largest Christian sports ministry in the country and has focused on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ since 1954.

Strawberry, despite being born in Los Angeles, spent most of his 17 year career in MLB, playing in the "Big Apple" for the New York Mets and the New York Yankees, where he won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1983.

After his stellar rookie season with the Mets, the 6-foot 6, left-handed, right fielder, with the "sweet" home run swing made the name Strawberry a permanent fixture on the backs of jerseys all over the country, by recording 335 home runs, having 1,000 runs batted in, eight All-Star appearances, and winning four World Series rings in his career.

Despite Strawberry’s accomplishments on the baseball diamond, however, the NY Mets Hall of Famer’s personal life was plagued with drug addictions, abuse, divorces, cancer, jail-time and many other issues.

With his life in turmoil, the former No.1 draft pick of the New York Mets, finally found true redemption and restoration in the name of Jesus Christ.

I was once very lost and tormented, but now I am found and free in Christ Jesus. I want everyone to experience the saving and transforming power of Jesus Christ."
