BOBBEE BEE & MISS MAYBELLINE ADDRESS STRESS AND WORKER BURNOUT

edited by Nubiana V.Mitchell Eric Graham, the creator of the controverisal cartoon character Bobbee Bee "The Hater" attended the 2012 Daycare Provider's Conference hosted by the Duplin County Partnership for Children in Kenansville,NC at the Duplin Commons on Saturday March 24, 2012, where he introduced his new cartoon character named Miss Maybelline. Miss Maybelline is a character designed to address the subject of stress, worker burnout and stress reduction in a workplace environment or daycare facility. Graham's poignant presentation was entitled"The Burden of Baggage: Lessons From A Bag Lady." Miss Mabelline, who was played by Smart Start's Training Specialist Toni Hudson, tried to show those in attendance how excess baggage or unwanted stress can affect their physical, mental, and spiritual make-up as well as their job outlook and job performance while offering relaxation techniques and coping mechanisms on how to manage the burdens of life, family and work. Graham's playful inter-active performance was extremely creative, informative, inspirational and entertaining. He utilized PowerPoint in order to deliver his message and used amusing images to get participants to laugh at themselves. He also incorporated music with a message, scripture from the Bible, quotes, and planned a memorable balloon ceremony at the end, which unfortunately was canceled due to fear of bad weather. The overall message was "What happens, when you stop caring for yourself, while trying to care for everyone else?" This idea was important because most people in the business of caring for others usually forget about their own overall health and well-being in the process. By the end of the workshop, the attendants at the conference learned how to identify their stressors, how to manage their stress, and healthful tips to improve their mind, body and soul.
