SUN-DAY SCHOOL LESSON: THE POWER OF ENCOURAGEMENT by
e.graham
While playing little league basketball, an angry youth coach
told a young man that "You will never make any high school basketball team
playing like that."
Even though, his words were harsh for a child at that age, a
father, observing from the belchers, still saw the greatness in his son's game,
and believed in his talent. And even though they were very poor, the father put
his arm around his son and said, "I'm going to make every sacrifice
possible to pay for some basketball lessons for you. And, if you want it, you
are going to have to go get it." The father's confidence in his son and
his constant encouragement paid off. Because, his son, made the varsity high
school basketball team, earning him a college scholarship, along with a
lucrative NIL contract and an opportunity to be drafted in the NBA.

With that said, when the world tries to tear us down, we
need people who build us up, (Thess 5:11) people who recognize our talent and
help us make the most of it. Consider these "comments for parents,"
written from a child's point of view:
1. My hands are small; please don't expect perfection
whenever I make a bed, draw a picture or throw a ball.
2. My legs are short; slow down (James 1:19)so that I can
keep up with you.
3. My eyes have not seen the world (1 Cor 2:9) as yours
have; let me explore it safely, and don't restrict me unnecessarily. (Ecc 11:9)
4. Housework will always be there; I'm only little for a
short time. (John 16:18) to explain things to me about this wonderful world, and
do so willingly.(Deu 6:7)
5. My feelings are tender; don't nag ( Eph 6:4) all day
long. Treat me as you would like to be treated. (Luke 6:31)
6. I am a special gift from God;(Ps127:3)treasure me as God
intended you to-holding me accountable(Prov 13:1) for my actions, give me
guidelines to live by, and discipline me in a loving manner.
So, today, be an ENCOURAGER!!! (Prov. 16:24)
