NATIVE SON
In the age of Black Lives Matter, where we have witnessed the death of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, and little Tamir Rice, HBO decided to retell Richard Wright's classic 1940 novel Native Son, which tells the story of 20-year-old Bigger Thomas, who dreams of a life beyond his impoverished Chicago neighborhood after entering into a seductive new world of money and power.
This new HBO adaptation of Wright's work from director Rashid Johnson and playwright Suzan-Lori Parks re-airs on June 4th, Tuesday night at 8:15 PM.

I encourage everyone, who decides to watch this film, however, to please read Dr.Tommy J. Curry's book: The Man-Not:Race, Class, Genre, and The Dilemmas of Black Manhood in order to get a better philosophical understanding of the image of Black Masculinity, which is depicted in the film.
