With ten political candidates and one stage, the first round of the 2019 Democratic debates held at Miami’s Arsht Center for the Performing Arts began and ended with politicians fighting for the soul of America and the attention of potential voters in the 2020 presidential election.
It was almost "sickening" to witness the candidates pander to a growing Spanish-speaking population in their opening remarks. Especially, with the debates being broadcasted on Telemundo.
This poor attempt to dazzle voters and impress others with their tongues, probably made most of Trump's "white-bread" "Let's Make America Great Again" supporters feeling isolated, angry, and uncomfortable in their "own country." (English please!!)
It, however, was obvious, the stage managers at NBC, whether consciously or subconsciously, positioned their top four candidates together, (Julián Castro, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren and Beto O'Rourke) making them the center of attention to the viewing audience, who, probably, weren't aware of their propaganda, as well as, to the of the moderators, Lester Holt of NBC News, Savannah Guthrie of the “Today” show and José Díaz-Balart of Telemundo in the first hour and Chuck Todd of “Meet the Press” and Rachel Maddow of MSNBC in the second hour, who at one point spoke to them directly, as if no one else was on stage.
Matter of fact, in the first hour of the debate, the moderators addressed all their questions, seemingly to Elizabeth Warren , while avoiding the other candidates on stage like New York's Bill de Blasio and John Delaney, as if, they were infected by measles.
Yes, it seems as if, the game is fix, the answers rehearsed, and the stage too small.
So, get ready for Round Two, tonight at 9 p.m Eastern Time on NBC, where six more Democratic candidates, try to compete with the next Fab Four, Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Kamila Harris, and Pete Buttigieg for 60 seconds to answer questions and 30 seconds to respond to follow-ups.
