BOBBEE BEE: THE STATE OF AMERICA IN THE SUBURBS OF ST.LOUIS

policeaa BY Gary Norris Gray – BASN Staff Reporter

African Americans are furious about what occurred in Ferguson, Missouri. The Black community has a growing concern because their young males have become targets of ROGUE policemen.

Young Black males are losing their lives because of a negative image that is being portrayed in the social news media, and this image has been taken advantage of by ROGUE police officers.

angers

Last weekend a young African American male was walking in the middle of the road, and was stopped by the local policeman

This young Black man went from walking home to having a confrontation with law enforcement over a trivial issue, and dying from multiple gunshot wounds.
This young man will not be going home, nor will he be attending college this year.
The death of Michael Brown in August 2014 is a growing trend that should be addressed by the citizens of the United States.

Here are some suggestions:

1.) Demilitarize all police forces in the United States.  The police are being to look like combat troops
milsport
2.) The police force should reflect the population of the city, county, or township they are employed.
In Ferguson, Missouri there are 53 officers and only three are Black. The city of Ferguson is majority Black. This is a terrible incident waiting to happen.
3.) Each officer should have a camera on their uniform to record events. Since the introduction of cameras in San Jose, California and Evesham, New Jersey, Police-consumer complaints have dropped 67%. This should be mandatory.
4) Each officer should attend racial sensitivity trainings every year.
5) There should be transparency by the police force when a case of controversy arises.
What has transpired in the St. Louis suburb creates more confusion and mistrust of public officers. The policemen in question should be named. Hiding this individual will not help the community move past the hurt.
6) The Police force should be willing to allow an outside agency to investigate controversial cases without interference.

Here is a quote from the Huffington Post-BLACKVOCIES

policseThe community anger in Ferguson appears to have been latent for quite some time in the city, which has mostly African-American residents but very few African-American public officials. According to the Los Angeles Times,  Ferguson’s police chief and mayor are white. Of the six City Council members, one is black. The local school board has six white members and one Latino. Of the 53 commissioned officers on the police force, three are black, said Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson.  Blacks are also disproportionately pulled over by police in Ferguson. Whites make up about a third of Ferguson’s population but accounted for just 12.7 percent of the stops by Ferguson police.
Last year, African-Americans made up 93 percent of the arrests following car stops, even though whites were more likely to have contraband.

oo
This incident could have been avoided by:
1) The young man obeying the policemen’s order to walk on the sidewalk even-though he had the right walk in the street. One needs to question the way this police officer asked the young men to move out of the street.

2) The policemen could have driven around the block to let the two young men think about their circumstances. Then the officer could have returned when cooler heads prevailed.

Living in Carbondale, Illinois in the 1970’s many students including myself walked (rolled) in the Southern Illinois streets day and night without incidents. So what happened in Ferguson, Missouri?

3) The issue of Civil Rights and the issue of human rights need to be addressed.

images2RDBD36J

4) RESPECT – something that America and some Americans have lost.
Until these points are completed more young African Americans will not be coming home. It is a shame that young Black males are safer in Afghanistan or Iraq than in the United States. What does that say about our country? There is something wrong with this picture. We have a problem in this country: the constant drumbeat of demonizing young African American males. The question we should ask is WHY?
C_ Vann Woodward, The Strange Career of Jim Crow1_aspxNext, what happened to the Black volunteer, legislator, coach, teacher, lawyer, scientist, and astronaut? These are positive role models that seldom get mentioned in the American press.  Not sexy enough, does not have that hot sizzle, so they result to the media motto is-IF IT BLEEDS IT LEADS – at the expense of young African American males.

Remember that the 2014 United States census states that crime has been reduced to its lowest level in 15 years.  So the question that needs to be asked is “why are so many young African American males being buried every year?”   How many times do we (Black community) have to feel this pain how many times will another Black mother and father bury their child?

The historically troubling 1960’s should have taught America a lesion in race relations but it seems like this country is slowly sliding back into the past. Could Jim Crow Laws be far behind? For those who don’t know what Jim Crow Laws are, read the book The Strange Career of Jim Crow by C. Van Woodward.
Black families still have to still teach and train their children to be careful going to the store, to the movies, or to their friend’s house because these children might run into one of these ROGUE police officers.

Black families have to teach and train their children never to confront an officer of the law.

White children do not have to face this dilemma nor do they have to fear for their lives every time they step out of their home.

America needs to have a national conference on the issue of race while President Barack Obama is our political leader. If this does not happen before the end of 2016 it will never happen and we (USA) might fall into a racial abyss.

Unlike President Kennedy who took the bull by the horn.

Kennedy told the country that Jim Crow Laws shall end and crafted Civil Rights laws that President Lyndon B. Johnson passed in 1964, President Obama has not shown leadership when it comes to racial issues.

fergPresident Obama should encourage young African Americans to dress for success. That means pull your pants up and put your cap on correctly. Mr. Obama also should point out to authority figureheads that they need to respect the law. Dialog is the better answer than confrontation. The President needs to take the lead in this discussion of race in America.WHY? Because Young Black males cannot wear RED or BLUE colored clothing because its gang related.
Black males cannot wear HOODIES because of the thug culture that surrounds this style of clothing.
Black males cannot walk the streets at night because they might be selling drugs.
It’s been proven that white males sell more drugs at night, but don’t let that get in the way of telling a good story. This is the mentality of the United States on views of young Black males.

These stereotypes attitudes are killing young African American males.

When you think of human beings as animals you begin to treat them as such, and that can become dangerous.BLACKAX Now we have prisons for profit, the grade school to prison pipeline, cutting funds for YMCA, YWCA, basketball camps, and midnight youth community gatherings.

Let me make this crystal clear the majority of policemen are here to serve and protect, the majority of policemen are good people and good officers but just like in society there are 10% of bad apples in the bunch and those bad apples make the group look bad.

That ten percent are hard core racist and they are ROGUE officers of the law and should not be on any police force.

This is troubling because that bad ten percent carry firearms and have the power to control, arrest, and kill people. That 10 percent has the power to take life and then hide behind the solid BLUE WALL.
Which, leads America into white male privilege and Black male anger.
The powder keg only needs a match to light the fire.
bookNot much has change from the 1960’s.
So it’s now August 2014, and the list continues to grow: Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, and now 18 year old Michael Brown.
Now I want you all to think really hard. When was the last time a white teenage male was shot by a policeman?

BOBBEE BEE: 10 Powerful Black Female Superheroes We Love

Growing up in Duplin County, the Graham Brothers were inspired by their mother Queenia Elizabeth Graham, who encouraged them to explore their vivid imaginations, by purchasing comic books every week in order to teach them how to read and how to draw their own Superheroes and Sheroes.

And, after months of practice, they finally mastered the art of storytelling, by producing their own comic books at an early age.

Hilariously, most of the comic book that they illustrated cleverly contained family members and friends in the neighborhood, who would fight Marvel and DC characters like Super-Man, Batman, and the Incredible Hulk.

As a result, as they grew older, they took that talent given to them by her and developed a cartoon character of their only in 2000 by the  name of Bobbee Bee "The Hater," which led them to produce a series of children's books, and later a full-length movie, which they produced last year.

runtheworld
So, in dedication to their mother, the brothers list the 10 Most Powerful Female SuperHeroes, which was created by the staff at AtlantaBlackStar.com:

superheroes vixen Vixen (1981)

Vixen is an African female superhero who has the ability to tap into Earth’s morphogenetic field that allows her to mimic the abilities of any animal, by simply focusing on its specific abilities and drawing them directly from the field. Using her Tantu Totem, a mystical totem said to be created by the African god Anansi the Spider, Vixen is able to control her powers.

Her many powers include the ability to spit venom like a spitting cobra and to acquire the strength of a rhinoceros beetle (about 65 tons), the constriction of an anaconda, the wall-crawling ability of a spider, similar to Spider-Man, the speed of a cheetah and the flight of a hawk.

superheroes monica
Captain Marvel/Spectrum (1982)

Monica Rambeau was a lieutenant in the New Orleans police force. While trying to prevent the creation of a dangerous weapon, Rambeau is exposed to extra-dimensional energy and as a result she can transmute her body to energy and back again at will.

Rambeau, now known as Captain Marvel, can transform herself into any form of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum including cosmic rays, gamma rays, X-rays, ultraviolet radiation, visible light and electricity.

She is invisible and intangible in many of her energy forms, she also has the ability to project these energies from her body while she is in human form, usually in the form of energy blasts from her hands.

Starting in September 2013, Rambeau will appear as one of the lead characters in the Marvel NOW! relaunch of Mighty Avengers comics, acting as the team’s field leader under the new codename Spectrum.

superhero nubia
Nu’bia (1973)

Nubia (1973) was initially depicted as a twin to Diana (Wonder Woman) when she was formed from black clay. Nubia possessed a magic sword created by Mars, a Greek god who sought to destroy Wonder Woman, which was the only weapon on Earth that could counteract Diana’s magic lasso.

Nu’Bia (1999) was later re-imagined as an Amazonian warrior with 3,000 years of combat experience providing her expertise in both hand-to-hand combat as well as with hand-held weapons.

As an Amazonian warrior she also possesses immortality, superhuman strength, durability, stamina, agility and enhanced intellect.

superheroes jet
Jet (1988)

Celia Winward, the only known female Jamaican-born female superhero, was living in Great Britain when guardians of the universe (creators of the Green Lantern) decided to recruit and empower 10 earthlings to be their successors as the “new guardians.”

Under the name Jet, she received the power to absorb and use electromagnetic waves.

Jet has the ability to fly, create blasts of heat and force, and generate an electromagnetic pulse; move and manipulate metal with magnetic fields; fire blasts of electricity; and see in other frequencies of the spectrum besides visible light, such as ultraviolet and infrared.

When manifesting her powers, her hair appears to be on fire though she has no fire-related abilities.

superhero thunder
Thunder (2003)

As the oldest daughter of D.C Comics superhero Black Lightning, Anissa Pierce struck a deal with her father to put off crime fighting until she graduated college.

On the evening of her graduation, Anissa transformed into Thunder. Her power is in density manipulation, which gives her the ability to increase her body’s mass while preserving volume, which effectively increases her density.

In this state she is near-immovable, almost completely invulnerable (a mob enforcer once suffered a compound fracture after trying to punch Thunder in the face), and can create massive shockwaves just by stomping the ground.

Ladyhawk (1999)

Twin sisters Regina and Rosetta were daughters of a crime lord, but decided to use their powers for good. Rosetta was a great fighter, while Regina was skilled with technology. The sisters shared the codename Ladyhawk.
superheroes ladyhawk
The Ladyhawk twins are skilled in a variety of martial arts styles. Both of the twins are quite formidable opponents, but there is enough variation between their fighting styles for a trained eye (like Spider-Girl) to tell the two apart.

They supplement their fighting skills with weapons, such as falcon-shaped shuriken, smoke bombs, capture rings, and sonic-throwing blades.

superhero fatality
Fatality (1997)

Yrra Cynril was the eldest child of the planet Xanshi’s ruling family and the first be trained by the Warlords of Okaara, who trained the best and the brightest children within the Vegan star system in the art of combat.

Fatality has super-human strength, speed, reflexes, stamina and endurance and is an expert in all forms of combat and the use of many weapons. She is considered one of the best warriors in the universe.

Fatality may have many weapons but usually she employs an energy staff. She has a pair of jet boots that allow her to fly and a starship that she uses to traverse the universe.
superhero silhouette

Silhouette (1990)

Silhouette’s father Andrew Chord was a member of a team that found a well-spring of raw, primal energy called the “Well of All Things.” Chord and other members an American recon patrol decided to breed a superior race.

Through the selective breeding, Silhouette was given the ability to teleport herself over short distances on Earth by traveling through the Darkforce dimension. She can “melt” into any shadow or area of darkness, and then reemerge on Earth through another shadow or area of darkness.

She can also open small portals anywhere shadows existed and use them to attack distant enemies by extending her crutches through them.

After her legs were crippled due to injuries inflicted by gunfire, Silhouette received a special pair of combat-capable crutches and leg braces. The crutches included both a hidden electric tazer that can emit charges to stun an adversary, and a slim anesthetic needle injector that delivers paralytic chemicals. The crutches are also equipped with “smoke gas” and metal firing pellets.

Silhouette also has enhanced speed, strength, agility, and sensory perception. She is a superb hand-to-hand combatant and capable martial artist, and master of an unspecified martial arts.

superheroe crimson avenger
Crimson Avenger (2000)

Jill Carlyle, also known as the Crimson Avenger is a minor Spirit of Vengeance. Once a practicing lawyer, the Crimson Avenger uses a pair of Colt pistols to exact vengeance upon criminals.

She possesses the powers of teleportation and intangibility. Her guns never miss, never run out of ammunition, and have no triggers. The bullets are capable of penetrating any substance, and can wound invulnerable heroes such as Superman and Power Girl, as well as crack the armored shell of Captain Atom.

The guns seemingly have a force of their own, as she speaks of having to restrain them from shooting those who come between her and her target.

Her intangibility does not function against her own weapons or other magical forces. Until the curse is lifted, she is seemingly immortal.

Storm (1975)

superheroes storm 1Ororo Monroe, better known as Storm, was one of the first Black comic book characters, and the first Black female, to play either a major or supporting role in the big two comic book houses, Marvel Comics and DC Comics. Her powers and abilities are extensive.

According to marvel.wikia:

“Storm is one of the most powerful mutants on Earth and has demonstrated a plethora of abilities, most of which are facets of her power to manipulate the weather. She has been able to control both Earthly and extraterrestrial ecosystems on several occasions. She can modify the temperature of the environment, control all forms of precipitation, humidity and moisture (at a molecular level), generate lightning and other electromagnetic atmospheric phenomena, and has demonstrated excellent control over atmospheric pressure.

She can incite all forms of meteorological tempests, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and hurricanes, as well as mist. She can dissipate such weather to form clear skies as well.

She has demonstrated the ability to separate water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen via electrolysis, allowing her to breathe underwater.

While in outer space, she is able to affect and manipulate the interstellar and intergalactic mediums.”

Storm was once the Queen of Wakanda when she married the Black Panther, T’Challa.
